As autumn draws near, Annandale High School's football team under the guidance of Coach Christopher Bagot, is gearing up for a fresh start. Looking back on a challenging 2-8 season last year, Coach Bagot highlights the team's resilience and unwavering determination to improve. "We had some tough games last year, but we also had standout moments," Coach Bagot recalls. Victories over Falls Church and Lewis, including shutouts, highlighted their potential. "This year, we're focusing on mental toughness and maximizing player performance by reducing double roles," he explains, highlighting their preparation for the upcoming season.

Coach Bagot has immersed himself in understanding Annandale High School's football program and culture. "It's a program with a rich history and passionate community support," he says. "I've learned the importance of integrating our 'We Don't Miss' attitude into everything we do, both on and off the field."

The offseason has been instrumental in shaping the team's dynamics and goals. "Our players have shown incredible dedication," Coach Bagot notes proudly. "From improving strength to excelling in other sports, such as wrestling, lacrosse, and track, they've demonstrated versatility and commitment." Athletes like Jordy Lopez, Jeremiah Nelson, Connor Delaney, Austin Graham, Alex Torres, Junior Vera Puna, and Jonathon Trejo-Cruz have excelled outside of football, showcasing their athletic prowess in multiple arenas.

Looking ahead to the season schedule, Coach Bagot acknowledges the challenges and opportunities. "We're facing a familiar lineup of opponents, aiming to elevate our game," he says. "Our first game against Marshall will set the tone, and teams like Hayfield are ones to watch."

Key losses from last season, including Thyrese Ofosu and Ivan Flores, have left gaps that new players like Khalid Muhadin, Noah Lenn, Kenneth Caceres, Michael Bawah, Adonis Garcia, Noel Sanchez, and Jeremiah Nelson are eager to fill. "We're counting on their skills and determination to step up," Coach Bagot states optimistically. "Alongside returning talents like Dom Vejcik, Osman Conteh, Yanni Prionas, Brayn Sob Djampou, and other key players, who's not only a standout linebacker but also a pivotal leader for us, we're shaping a resilient lineup."

Players to watch this season include Osman Conteh, known for his explosive plays on both defense and offense, and Khalid Muhadin, expected to make significant contributions at cornerback and wide receiver. "These players embody the spirit and potential of the Atoms," Coach Bagot adds.

As the Annandale Atoms prepare to embark on a new season in the National District, Coach Bagot and his team are focused on unity, improvement, and a renewed determination to make their mark. "We're excited to showcase our growth and compete with the best," Coach Bagot concludes. With their eyes set on victory, the Atoms are poised to redefine their presence in high school football this season.
