The Falls Church Jaguars football team is gearing up for an exciting season under the leadership of new head coach Tim Coogan. Despite his new role, Coogan is no stranger to the program, having been involved with the school for over a decade. His intimate knowledge of the program and its players fuels his belief that the Jaguars are poised for a breakthrough year.

Reflecting on last season, Coach Coogan acknowledges the challenges and losses faced by the team, particularly with the departure of key players such as Angel Sanchez, Rudy Umanzor, and Miguel Soto. The graduation of these essential linemen and two starting quarterbacks, along with standout wide receivers Nick DeWolfe and Jalen Allen, left significant gaps in the roster. However, Coogan is confident in the team's ability to fill these voids through the offseason training and a relentless work ethic.

One of the most notable developments during the offseason was the impressive strength gains made by the players. Coach Coogan reports, "The biggest highlight was the strength gains in all the players. We ran stats on their first testing at the end of February and tested again after Memorial Day. Some players improved 50-80 lbs on single lifts, and over 100lbs on their totals in the 2 and a half month span." This focus on building strength and size, particularly for the linemen, has been central to the team's preparation strategy.

As the Jaguars prepare to face a challenging schedule, Coach Coogan emphasizes the importance of each game and the excitement of competing against strong opponents. "We are excited to compete with all the teams on our schedule. The team is playing the flipped schedule from last year, and we are working to improve," he said.

Key returners this season include senior linebacker/running back Edwerd Boyake, center/defensive lineman/tight end Sam Dresser, and cornerback/wide receiver Gewa Noah. These seniors have embraced the challenges and changes, setting a high standard for the team. Their significant strength gains and leadership on and off the field will be crucial for the Jaguars' success.

Additionally, juniors Chris DeWolfe and Gabe Valencia are expected to step up as wide receivers. Chris is known for his agility, while Gabe brings a strong, athletic presence. Underclassmen like sophomore athlete Elijah Lewis and center/offensive lineman/defensive lineman Logan Steider have also shown great commitment and leadership, indicating a bright future for the team.

Coach Coogan is optimistic about the upcoming season. "I have been around this program and school for over 10 years. I know that the student-athletes are excited to work to achieve their goals. We are hungry for success on the field, and they are willing to do what is necessary to make it a reality," he stated.

With a renewed focus on strength, a dedicated group of players, and a new head coach with deep ties to the program, the Falls Church Jaguars are ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season.
