This week, James Madison High School’s senior middle linebacker, Jackson Ambruzs, has been named the Concorde District Football Player of the Week for his outstanding performance on the field. Jackson's leadership and relentless effort were crucial in leading Madison’s defense to a dominant performance, helping secure a vital victory.
Jackson recorded 10 tackles and forced a fumble, a stat line that underscores his impact on the game. His biggest highlight came when he forced a fumble on the 5-yard line, a play that was pivotal in preserving Madison’s lead and shifting the momentum. "Forcing that fumble was huge," Jackson said. "It was a key moment that helped keep our defense strong and set the tone for the rest of the game."
In addition to his physical contributions, Jackson played a critical role in ensuring the defense was properly aligned and ready for every play. "Making sure our D-line and defense were set properly was important," he explained. "Filling gaps and doing my job helped our defense stay disciplined and effective." A key moment for Jackson was seeing the entire defense on the same page, working together to force multiple turnovers. "It was great to see everyone aligned and executing the game plan," he reflected.
Jackson’s motivation comes from his deep commitment to his family and teammates. "My family and teammates push me to perform my best," he shared. His father, in particular, has been a significant influence, always encouraging him to strive for excellence.
This week, Jackson and his team faced the challenge of adjusting to Marshall’s offense, but through clear communication and teamwork, they overcame this obstacle. "We had to talk through it and get everyone on the same page," Jackson noted. Handling pressure is something Jackson does well, and he credits his trust in the coaching staff for helping him stay focused during critical moments. "Trusting what our coaches tell us is key," he said.
Looking ahead, Jackson’s goals for the rest of the season are clear: staying healthy and winning every game. His ultimate long-term goal is to win a state championship with his team, a dream that drives his every move on the field.
Off the field, Jackson enjoys playing lacrosse with his brother, a sport that helps him stay active and connected with his family. Before every game, Jackson has a simple but energizing pre-game ritual: a Bang energy drink to get him fired up and ready to play.
To his teammates and coaches, Jackson expressed his gratitude: "I’m so thankful for having a great coaching staff and great teammates. I’ve learned a lot from them and will keep using that in the future."
Congratulations to Jackson Ambruzs for earning the Concorde District Football Player of the Week honor!
