This week, South County High School’s senior defensive lineman, Hunter Malecki, earned Player of the Week honors for his dominant performance on the field. As a key figure in the Stallions' defense, Hunter’s relentless effort and leadership helped push his team to success in a crucial game.

Hunter tallied impressive stats, recording 11 total tackles, with 9 of them being solo tackles and 4 tackles for loss. His standout moment came in the second quarter when he forced a fumble on first down, shifting the momentum in his team's favor. "Forcing that fumble was huge for us and really gave our team momentum in the second quarter," Hunter said, reflecting on the key play that helped energize his teammates.

Hunter’s leadership extended beyond the stat sheet. Throughout the game, he played a crucial role in maintaining the team’s momentum and even helped bail out other players' mistakes. His commitment to his teammates is a defining characteristic of his play. "I kept the momentum up and helped my teammates when they needed it," Hunter explained. A key moment for him was when South County scored their first touchdown after halftime, which he described as a turning point that propelled the team in the right direction.

Hunter’s motivation comes from his desire to perform at his best for his teammates. "Playing my best encourages my teammates to do the same," he shared. His ability to inspire and lead by example is a crucial part of his success on the field.

Like many teams, South County has faced its share of challenges, particularly with injuries and players being out. However, Hunter and his teammates have stepped up as role models, helping younger players fill in the gaps and keeping the team positive. "We’ve had injuries, but we did a good job being positive role models for the younger kids stepping up," he said, reflecting on how the team has managed adversity.

Handling pressure is something Hunter excels at. He’s always been able to manage pressure well and knows how to stay focused during big moments. "Growing up, I’ve always handled pressure well. During the game, it’s just about lining up and playing as hard as possible," he explained.

Looking ahead, Hunter has set big goals for himself. He aims to be selected for All-Met, a prestigious honor for top high school players in the Washington, D.C. area. Beyond high school, his goal is to earn his master’s degree, all while attending college on a scholarship.

When Hunter isn’t on the football field, he enjoys spending time with his teammates, finding ways to stay active and have fun. Before every game, he sticks to a simple but meaningful pre-game ritual: praying for guidance and strength.

Congratulations to Hunter Malecki for being named Player of the Week! His dominant defensive play, leadership, and commitment to his team continue to drive South County forward.
