Burke VA — The Lake Braddock Bruins delivered a commanding performance at home, defeating the West Potomac Wolverines 49-21 in a game that showcased Lake Braddock's explosive offense and staunch defense.

The game started with West Potomac receiving the opening kickoff, which resulted in a touchback. However, their first series quickly stalled, ending in a three-and-out after a third-down sack by Lake Braddock’s defensive standouts, Xavier Main (a William and Mary commit) and Trent Pane. Lake Braddock wasted no time capitalizing on their first possession. Quarterback Ty Jackson connected on two quick passes, the second of which was a 46-yard touchdown to Robert Hollien, who weaved through several defenders to put the Bruins up 7-0.

West Potomac's next drive began with another sack on first down but showed some resilience as quarterback Dominic Sanchez converted a crucial third-and-long to keep the drive alive. The Wolverines managed a 12-play drive that advanced to Lake Braddock’s 28-yard line before stalling, turning the ball over on downs.

Lake Braddock’s offense continued to move efficiently down the field in their next possession, with Jackson connecting on big completions, including one to Kai Austin. However, the Bruins' drive ended with a fake field goal attempt from the 14-yard line, which was unsuccessful as West Potomac’s defense held firm.

The Wolverines struggled to gain momentum and were forced into another three-and-out on their next series, which ended with yet another sack by Lake Braddock’s relentless defense. On Lake Braddock’s following drive, a fumble by JT Bordeaux was recovered by West Potomac, giving the Wolverines a much-needed opportunity. They capitalized immediately with Sanchez finding Grant Moloney for a 56-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7-7.

Lake Braddock responded quickly, with Jackson hitting Austin for a crucial 25-yard completion on third-and-7 to start the next drive. The Bruins capped it off with a 4-yard touchdown run by Bordeaux, reclaiming the lead at 14-7. After forcing West Potomac to punt again, Jackson struck once more, this time connecting with Austin for an 85-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 21-7.

The second half saw Lake Braddock continue to dominate. Jackson orchestrated a drive that ended with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Zac Hibner, pushing the lead to 28-7. On West Potomac’s next possession, Sanchez was intercepted by Kahleed Cash, further shifting the momentum in favor of Lake Braddock. The Bruins took advantage, with Jackson finding Hollien for a 13-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal, increasing the lead to 35-7.

West Potomac’s struggles continued as they were forced into another three-and-out. Lake Braddock quickly responded with an 81-yard touchdown pass from Jackson to Payton Holmes on the first play of their next series, making it 42-7.

West Potomac managed to cut into the lead with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez following a 70-yard completion earlier in the drive, bringing the score to 42-14 late in the third quarter. Lake Braddock answered back, with Jackson hitting Myles Harris for a 53-yard gain that set up a 1-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 49-14.

The Wolverines added one more touchdown late in the game to bring the final score to 49-21, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Lake Braddock’s control throughout the matchup.

Next week, Lake Braddock will host Fairfax in a game with significant playoff and district title implications, while West Potomac will look to rebound at home against Robinson, a team they narrowly lost to last year in a thrilling contest.
