Fairfax Va- The South County Stallions opened up on the road against Robinson in a hard-fought contest. Due to mother nature ruining everyone’s Thursday night plans were halted and most of the VHSL kicked off Friday afternoon. The Stallions are looking to gear up for another playoff run while the Rams are hoping to bounce back from last season.
South County scored on their opening drive on a nicely executed fake field goal, where all state wideout Tyler Orth (the holder) hit a streaking Trevion Campbell for a 15-yard touchdown pass. On the day Tyler Orth had himself quite the afternoon as he accounted for two passing scores and one receiving touchdown.
After a quick possession by Robinson, South County looked to be in control with their second possession. New starting quarterback Henry Miska found Orth again wide open for a 40-yard touchdown pass and the Stallions were in control going up 14-0 midway through quarter 1.
Robinson could not get anything going offensively early on, and South Count made them pay once again. On their third possession the Stallions went to the back of tricks with Orth at quarterback hitting a streaking Seif Koroma over the middle for a 51-yard touchdown strike. The Stallions went up 22-0 in the first quarter and would not score again.
The rest of this contest Robinson particularly on defense would play an inspired game. Midway through the second quarter the Rams finally got on the board with a high snap by the Stallions long snapper soaring out of the endzone for a safety (22-2).
Deep into the third quarter the score remaining 22-2 and the Rams were driving inside the Stallions redzone. After a pair of incompletions freshman corner Deon Wilson came down with an acrobatic interception. Javion Jackson would block Robinson field goal attempt getting the score 22-2 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Rams would not quit and go away they added a late touchdown in the final period but could not muster much else against a stingy Stallions defense. The final score in this contest was 22-8 with both teams having a lot of positive to build on.
Up next for South County is a trip across the DMV to face Washington D.C. power Quince Orchard. Robinson will look to regroup quickly as they travel next Friday to face South Lakes (0-1).
