Week 2 Previews

Carl Frederick

Gainesville @ Gar-Field

Friday night in Dumfries will be rocking as the host Red Wolves welcome a Gainesville squad that his sight on a region title. Both teams looked great last week and know that the competition is only going up from here. I expect this to be a shootout I really do, so much talent from both schools. I won’t give my score prediction on this one as I will be covering this contest. Key matchups to watch Caleb Clemons and Erik Nelson at linebacker for Gar-Field can they contain Gainesville power 5 running back Koven Smith?

Madison @ Lake Braddock

The Warhawks showed last week in their shutout victory over Stonebridge that you can take the rebuild elsewhere. Dominate the Bulldogs, the defense for Madison looks to be again among the best in the region. Lake Braddock made light work over a solid Colgan team putting up 64 points in their blowout win. Perhaps the biggest game in the state for Week 2, I am sticking with my pre-season prediction of the Bruins being state title contenders and they get the win 24-17.

Langley @ Herndon

Love what Coach Bachman has done over in Herndon and the Hornets already look like they are ready for a deep playoff run. Do not sleep on the Langley Saxons though, they had a nice outing in their shutout over Oakton 17-0. The Saxons are tough defensively, Johnny Callow and company should be ready from the get-go in this one, give me Herndon 31-14.

Riverbend @ Forest Park

The Forest Park Bruins took one on the chin last week losing to Mountain View 37-12. As I stated in their team preview the Bruins schedule is among the toughest in the state and welcoming a playoff bound Riverbend squad in week 2 is no cupcake. The Riverbend Bears handled business last week over Chancellor and I think they will stay undefeated tomorrow, give me Riverbend 28-20.

South County @ Quince Orchard

Last year the Quince Orchard Cougars took to the South County pretty good blanking them 33-0. I expect a much better fight out of the visiting Stallions squad, particularly with that defense. Hunter Malecki, Khamani Matthews and Trent “Bam Bam” Brooks all made plays in their win over Robinson last week. Still this is a tall task for Coach Pannoni’s squad I’ll take the Cougars in a close one 21-14.
